You might think that my writing proclaims contemporary art is dead
On the contrary contemporary art is alive and well. Nor is not in a sad state. What sometimes makes it seem so is that we are less and less able to see quality artwork in the modern art sections of museums. The viewer is thus unable to compare it to what is allowed to hang there.
What has declined is the sensibility of those who are considered our so-called authorities on great modern art who control what is allowed to enter museums. In fact there has been at least as much fine work produced in the last hundred years as in any other time.
